Milling of plastics

We specialize in precision milling large, flat parts from all structural plastics. Our orders are based on 3D models (the model can be supplied by the customer or we can make it as needed). Based on 3D models, we are able to easily produce a detail according to the customer’specification.Most often we work on 3D files in STEP format this is a standard file format that allows for seamless exchange of information between different CAD environments.

What is plastic milling?

Plastic milling involves the precise removal of material from the workpiece using a cutting tool that rotates at high speed. This process allows complex shapes and surfaces to be obtained with high quality finish, which is crucial in the production of technical parts and components with strict tolerances. Plastic milling requires a suitable selection of processing parameters, such as tool rotation speed, feed and cutting depth, to avoid overheating and obtain a smooth surface.Plastics such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), or polyamide (PA) have different mechanical properties, which requires an individual approach during milling. Thanks to advanced techniques, it is possible to achieve high precision and repeatability, which is necessary in many industries, including automotive, medical and electronics.

Plastic milling in Protective Foam Solutions

Through CAD design, CAM process planning and CNC milling, we produce a range of items for you that protect tools or other equipment from damage and make them easy to store. These include shadow boards, protective inserts and packaging, as well as liners for suitcases. The precision of the process allows us to create accurate outlines of your tools, devices or items so that they are not exposed to mechanical damage during transport or storage.

What is the production like?

The whole process proceeds according to clearly defined points, which consist of: placing an order, making detailed measurements, creating a 3D model in CAD, your acceptance of the presented project, planning the production process in CAM, milling on a CNC machine. At the end of this process, you will receive precisely made products that will meet your expectations.

The advantages of milling plastics on CNC machines

The huge advantage of using numerically controlled machines (CNC) is the possibility of fast, accurate and repeatable production. The machine settings remain the same throughout the production phase, so every part produced looks identical. Thanks to repeatability, we avoid a situation where part of the batch is lost due to quality defects. Designing the model and production plan in CAD/CAM completely eliminates this risk.In addition, the big advantage of plastic milling is that the part that comes out of the milling machine is already a finished component or product. It does not require additional processing, such as smoothing the surface. As a result, plastic milling is an extremely cost-effective method, as it generates small amounts of material waste.

CNC milling of plastic

Milling plastics requires the creation of a very accurate 3D model, representing the desired detail. This is possible thanks to CAD programming, which makes it possible to design even the most complex shapes in different sizes. The next step is to convert the same design into a machine tool control (CAM programming). The last step is machining on a numerically controlled CNC milling machine.

Our machine tool is equipped with a Blum Novotest 3D touch probe. This allows a very precise basis of the detail in subsequent operations. We can process details up to 1500x2500mm.

FAQ

Answers to frequently asked questions

It is a cutting process that involves giving plastics precise shapes by removing excess material with a CNC milling machine.

Milling is suitable when precision, repeatability of production and minimisation of material waste are required.

Many types of plastics can be machined, including the most popular in the industry, including: PVC (PVC), Dibond, Polyethylene, HIPS, ABS, Plexi.

The process begins with the creation of an accurate 3D model in the CAD program, which is then converted into machine control via CAM program.
