Foam packaging – what are the benefits?
Packaging foam fillers are used to perfectly fill the space between the walls of the packaging and the transported product, component or tool. As a result, transporting these items is no longer a difficult challenge, which involves a high risk of financial loss. Tool foam guarantees safety by: preventing cuts and abrasions of parts, leveling shocks, resistance to stress damage.With these properties, foam packaging reduces the risk of loss. In addition, they are a very beneficial investment in product quality because:
- allow the transport of full sets of semi-finished products necessary for assembly of components;
- they are reusable objects,and therefore can serve during many transports;
- the tool foam can be adapted to any shape of the tool or product, guaranteeing very effective protection of the object;
- can be adapted to different shapes of suitcases;
- packs or drawers.
What do we make foam filling from?
Foam inserts are made of EPE and XPE foam, known for its variety of features, making it suitable for transporting a variety of products.
What foams do we offer at PFS?
About thicknesses and densities depending on the type of material. XPE foams come in many colors such as:
- black
- white
- blues
- green
- yellow
- red
- gray
- two-color with a black layer with a thickness of 5 mm and a layer in the selected color.
The foams are available in sheets of 2000×1000 mm, 1200×2100 mm and 1200×2000 mm in thicknesses from a few millimeters to 100 mm.
EPE polyethylene foams are available in black and white in the dimension of 1200×2000 mm in a sheet from 10 – 100 mm.
Protective disposable foam cartridges
Foam protective inserts are designed to protect the product during transport. They allow to immobilize the transported element in a fixed position inside the package so as to protect it against shocks, impacts and surface damage. EPE foams are perfect here, which will protect products from damage while not significantly increasing logistics costs.
In disposable foam inserts, we use non-crosslinked polyethylene foams – they are the most commonly used material in the packaging industry. The foam has low production costs and is very easy to recycle.
Foam cartridges – application
Foam packaging is used for external transport. We are talking about both the transport of components for the production of final goods between contractors and the packaging of finished products that go to the customer. In addition, they are also used inside workplaces to store and move tools or measuring instruments.
Workshop drawer inserts – also protect tools and instruments from damage when opening and closing drawers loaded with a large weight of tools. Foam inserts for drawers also facilitate the segregation of tools and improve the ergonomics of work.
Foam for tool cabinets – the use of foam inserts in tool cabinets provides additional protection for sensitive tools that, unprotected, could be damaged when transporting tool trolleys.

Advantages of foam fillings
Abrasion resistance
Polyethylene foam packaging is abrasion-resistant, so its shape remains intact for a long time, guaranteeing a perfect fit of the products into the moulds. It also extends the life of this material, making it much more durable than Styrofoam.
Varied foam density
The tool foam made of this material can take on different densities, so we will adjust it to the specificity of the products you intend to transport in them. The density of the foam is given in kg/m3 – the higher the value, the heavier the products can be transported in polyethylene foam packaging.
Foam packaging – excellent shock absorption
Another feature of the foam are shock-absorbing properties – the advantage of this feature is not only the reduced risk of damage to components during the fall of a suitcase or other packaging containing a component, but also the possibility of transporting extremely sensitive measuring and calibration instruments, e.g. micrometers, temperature calibrators, reference resistors or precision scales.
Resistance to solvents
Thanks to this property, polyethylene foam inserts are used to transport products that require special protection. This includes, among others, automotive, aviation, electronic equipment, as well as medical or laboratory equipment.
Anti-dust
Tool foams made of polyethylene do not absorb dust. They can therefore also be used in the storage or transport of products requiring particular sterility.
Antistatic properties.
For the transport of electronic equipment, in particular computer equipment, we recommend antistatic foam cartridges. Due to their properties, they do not carry electrostatic charges, so the equipment is not exposed to damage. In the case of delicate electronic equipment, excellent shock absorption is also important.
